(1) How do you know the MaxPERF Drilling Tool drills straight?
Answer - The MaxPERF Drilling Tool is configured so that drill bit thrust (weight on bit) is consistently correlated with drill bit rotation (rpm's) to create a straight, stable drilling technique - over the drilling depth of 72 inches there is very little deviation. The lateral support of the tunnel wall aides in keeping the drill bit and drill stem moving straight ahead.
(2) How much does it cost to use the MaxPERF Drilling Tool?
Answer - The cost for using the MaxPERF Drilling Tool service depends on many variables like location, depth of well, how many penetration tunnels. If you visit our Request Quote page you can submit your wellbore parameters to get a cost proposal from Penetrators Canada Inc.
(3) What type of fluid should I use to operate the MaxPERF Tool?
Answer -
For reliable tool operations a clean, sweet fluid is recommended. The more important determining factor is the reservoir... fluid compatibility with the reservoir is very important to successful results. The MaxPERF Tool can be operated with a variety of water based and oil based fluids. Fresh water, KCl blended water, produced water, water blended with clay stabilizers, water blended with methanol... crude oil that is clean and light enough to pump, diesel, various frac oils, distillate, cutter stock oil and canola oil have all been pumped to operate the MaxPERF Tool.
(4) How long does it take to make a MaxPERF hole?
Answer -
The time it takes to make a MaxPERF penetration can vary due to a number of factors - casing size, rock lithology, well depth, operating fluid, etc.
MaxPERF penetrations consist of a hole milled in casing followed by a tunnel drilled up to 72 inches into the formation. The time to mill the casing hole varies slightly due to casing size, weight and grade - milling times vary from 2 - 5 minutes per milled hole.
Following the milled hole, a diamond drill bit drills the lateral tunnel into the formation. This drill time can vary considerably depending on the type of rock that is being drilled - we have drilled tunnels as quickly as 2 minutes in unconsolidated sandstone, to as much as up to 75 minutes in hard, carbonate formations.
(5) How do I know when a tunnel is complete?
Answer -
Built into the MaxPERF Drilling Tool is a series of REAL TIME hydraulic indicators. There is an indicator that gives a real time pressure/flowrate change when the mill bit is fully extended through the casing wall. There is a similar real time pressure/flowrate change indicator in the drilling function of the tool telling the Penetrators' operator how fast he is drilling... for each and every tunnel.
(6) Does the reservoir see any of the pressure applied to the tubing and MaxPERF tool, like with jetting techniques?
Answer -
The fluid flow and pressure applied to the tubing to actuate the MaxPERF tool is contained in the tool to shift valves, turn motors, and extend/retract piston assemblies. Any fluid pressure that exhausts out of the tool into the annulus does so at virtually zero pressure. When a reservoir compatible fluid is used to operate the MaxPERF tool, minimal damage to the reservoir is created.
